This week in Year 5, we have been making posters about what we have been doing in the curriculum this year.We have been looking at a selection of Greek myths-one of which is the story of Perseus and Medusa.

Another amazing activity we have been doing this week is making some African art which we are going to sell at our crafts fair.  5M have been making some pictures inspired by Joseph Thiongo. In 5S we have been weaving some baskets.

School values

Council Webmaster (schoolcouncil) on: Year 5 Blog

How we use the school values in class

In English and PSHE, 5M use tolerance. I know this because we accept each others ideas. Also I have a little group that help me come up with some ideas for the blog. The school value we use is motivated because they are all really motivated to help out with the school blog.

What learning looks like in our class

Council Webmaster (schoolcouncil) on: Year 5 Blog

5m work well together as a class. We try making learning fun in class eg. we were pretending to be detectives. Around the class we had facts about the Abbasid royal family and the British royal family. We had torches and went around the classroom finding the facts. We also turned the lights off and put spy music on.

If we get stuck we use other strategies (that we have already learnt) to help. The focus of the week makes us more motivated to try our best. Also we use our learning boards which we put a new topic each term. In spelling, we use our cards and word codes.

Behaviour

Council Webmaster (schoolcouncil) on: Year 5 Blog

Before getting a yellow card you get three warnings. Our focus for this week is supporting others and it is also an act of kindness. If you get a red card you get sent to the head teacher, deputy head teacher or year group leader. If you get a green card, you can get an award and will be sent to the head teacher or year group leader.Year 5 need 200 marbles to get an award. Also remember to have a growth mindset. All the best pupils try hard to get a green card! Its better to have a growth mindset than a fixed mindset.

Targets

Image result for school targets

5M are working hard to achieve their targets. In English the link between each groups targets are related to using apostrophes. In Maths, they are about adding. In reading, it is to scan for key information. For English we are on our second target bookmark. When we use our targets, we get a pink highlight on our bookmark.

reading

Council Webmaster (schoolcouncil) on: Year 5 Blog

Year 5 are reading the book The great inventions of Hugo Cabret. This book is about a boy who has a special notebook that has been taken away from him. He tries taking it back but he can't get it. His notebook is important to him because it has all his special inventions in it.

      Books people enjoy

I have spoken to 2 people and they have told me why they enjoy it. One said "I like Diary of a wimpy kid because it is funny" and the other said "I like Esio Trot because it's enjoyable and fun." Another thing for you to know is most of 5M children are getting close to 10-20 books at home with their parents. A few people are even getting close to 30! So now you can remember with your child.

The blog this week from Year 5.

Council Webmaster (schoolcouncil) on: Year 5 Blog

This week in Year 5,we have been learning about fractions in shapes in maths. In English,we have been improving our vocabulary in our writing and have written flashbacks just like Brian Selznick in the story Hugo Cabret.

In science,we have been experimenting and recording the effects that friction has on us.During our history lessons,we have written a letter to the Queen telling her the similarities and differences between the British Royal Family and the Iraqi Royal Family.
